Herbs for the Skin, Nervous and Digestive System

NY Open Center

May 4, 11, 18

To register for the LECTURE SERIES

In this series renowned herbalist Robin Rose Bennett will share her expertise about how to maximize the use of herbal remedies to maintain the health of three of the body’s main systems and address challenges to each.

The Skin (Integumentary System)

The skin comprises the largest organ of the body and is the boundary that separates our insides from everything “outside” us. Healthy skin is part of our natural immunity. Commonly available herbs such as: plantain, calendula, black birch, red clover, burdock, and dandelion can be helpful in nourishing and beautifying our skin as well as healing burns, acne, eczema, wounds, and viral and fungal skin infections. We’ll explore ways to incorporate these herbs internally and externally as facials, foods, teas, baths, oils, tinctures and powders.

Wednesday, May 4, 8–10pm

11WHN23TA

The Nervous System

The mysterious nervous system may hold the ultimate key to our health as neurons exist virtually everywhere in our bodies and are the messengers coordinating the working relationships throughout all our systems. We’ll explore how to use herbs such as sage, oatstraw, lavender, basil, st john’s wort, nettles, mullein, solomon’s seal to help address pain, nerve damage, inflammation, anxiety, MS, depression, neuropathy, headaches, and strokes.

Wednesday, May 11, 8–10pm

11WHN23TB

The Digestive Tract

It’s said we are what we eat, but we are, more truthfully, what we assimilate. We’ll focus on how to help our entire digestive system (esophagus, stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, intestines, appendix and colon) optimally assimilate food and eliminate waste. We’ll explore slippery elm, chamomile, basil, ginger, angelica, dandelion and other herbs that can help address mouth infections, irritable bowel, cramps, indigestion, stomach acidity, constipation, diarrhea, and hemorrhoids.

Wednesday, May 18th 8–10pm

Robin Rose Bennett, renowned herbalist, teacher, and author of Healing Magic, will be offering consultations to our clients one Saturday a month beginning March 5th. An herbal consultation with a wise woman herbalist focuses on your whole being – your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Through a combination of deep listening to your story, analysis of your physical symptoms, and guided meditation work to help you listen to your body’s own wisdom, Robin and her senior students will help you incorporate herbal medicine into your daily life in whatever form works best for you. Whether using teas, tinctures, baths, or oils, they will guide you toward the herbs and foods best suited for your needs. Consultations are informative, compassionate, and empowering.

Robin has been teaching Wisewoman Healing Ways - Herbal Medicine and Earth Spirit teachings since 1986. She teaches in holistic learning centers, medical schools, at national conferences, and most joyously, outside with the plants, even in our city parks. She is the author of Healing Magic: A Green Witch Guidebook. She can be reached at: www.wisewomanhealingways.com or PO Box 367 Hewitt, NJ 07421, and at 973-728-5878.

moonNew Moon Herbal Wisdom Circle

7-9 PM, $20

The New Moon is the perfect time to form an intention in meditation and commit to it in the fertile field of your imagination. Working magically and meditatively with common herbs and the cycles of the moon brings about a reconnection with the divine feminine (and if you are a woman, with your female body). Marking the new and full moons offers a profound, transformative spiritual practice that alters how you perceive and actually experience the unfolding of time. This circle will help you guide your own spiritual path and clarify your intentions so you can “womanifest” (or manifest) your dreams.
