When properly prepared, some of our favorite “seasonings” are actually profound herbal medicines.

Join herbalist Robin Rose Bennett as we go beyond the delight of aromatic and spicy flavors into the exciting and beneficial world of herbal medicine, discovering, for example, that basil is an effective anti-depressant, ginger can relieve lower back pain when used as a bath, and rosemary tea improves memory. We’ll explore hot, spicy herbs such as ginger, cayenne, garlic, black pepper, mustard and horseradish; and we’ll take a tour of aromatic herbs such as sage, rosemary, marjoram, basil, lavender and thyme.We’ll also touch on the medicinal properties of seeds such as sunflower, sesame and pumpkin, and the health benefits of foods such as honey, vinegar and chocolate.

Herbal preparations will be demonstrated to help you understand why one herb is powdered while another is used whole, why one is steeped and another is boiled. Herbs are truly “the people’s medicine” and this course is likely to bring out the herbalist in you.

Note: There will be a $2 materials fee payable to the instructor at the first session.

and comfrey.

 

This class is one part of a 3 part series on Herbs for the Nervous System

 

The nervous system is an amazing network of nerve cells and fibers that coordinates the relationships among all our body’s systems. Its good functioning is therefore critical to our overall health. In this three-evening series we will explore how to use herbs to support our nervous system and address imbalances when they occur.

In this class Robin will share her knowledge gleaned from 25+ years of working with clients in the Wisewoman herbal tradition.  Join us and observe Robin as she walks through an entire intake and shares tips on hearing the client’s story and discerning patterns of health and imbalance.  Everyone is welcome in this class but it will be of special benefit to healing practitioners of any modality.  One person will have the opportunity to participate in this class as the client.  This will be a safe and supportive way to help others learn, while getting Robin’s perspective on a health issue.  If you are interested in this opportunity please let us know when you drop off your deposit.

*This class needs a minimum number of students in order for it to occur.

Come celebrate the holiday of joyous rebirth when green shoots rise out of the earth and Spring fever begins to arise in our bodies and souls. This is the moment on Earth when there is a perfect pause in the eternal rhythms of ceaseless change. As light and dark and all opposites are brought into a dynamic dance of equal relationship, a magical portal opens, inviting us into creative partnership with the Mysteries of life, death, and rebirth. We will sing, dance, meditate, write and create a dream of our own rebirth. We will then empower each other’s visions in a sacred circle, as we each light a candle to align our choices with the expansive energy gifted to us by the return of spring. Our kitchens (including our cupboards, spice racks, and refrigerators) can be abundant sources of effective medicine for many ailments, and a lot safer than those in the pharmacy!

In this class we’ll explore the healing gifts of many items that most of us likely already have in our homes, from onions and garlic to thyme and cinnamon, potatoes and vinegar to salt, pepper, honey, apples, chocolate, etc. 

We’ll discover a variety of ways to use these common foods and herbs, including in wound powders, honeys, infused vinegars, herbal syrups, steams and baths, herbal washes, spice pastes, and healing meals.  We’ll address such first aid challenges as minor bleeding, belly aches, food poisoning, cuts, headaches, infections, inflammation, sinus troubles, burns, and much more. Come learn how to use the natural pharmacy you already have at your fingertips to keep you and your family healthy.
