When properly prepared, some of our favorite “seasonings” are actually profound herbal medicines.

Join herbalist Robin Rose Bennett as we go beyond the delight of aromatic and spicy flavors into the exciting and beneficial world of herbal medicine, discovering, for example, that basil is an effective anti-depressant, ginger can relieve lower back pain when used as a bath, and rosemary tea improves memory. We’ll explore hot, spicy herbs such as ginger, cayenne, garlic, black pepper, mustard and horseradish; and we’ll take a tour of aromatic herbs such as sage, rosemary, marjoram, basil, lavender and thyme. We’ll also touch on the medicinal properties of seeds such as sunflower, sesame and pumpkin, and the health benefits of foods such as honey, vinegar and chocolate.

Herbal preparations will be demonstrated to help you understand why one herb is powdered while another is used whole, why one is steeped and another is boiled. Herbs are truly “the people’s medicine” and this course is likely to bring out the herbalist in you.

Note: There will be a $2 materials fee payable to the instructor at the first session.

Spring Equinox Ritual & Celebration

with Robin Rose Bennett (AND NY pops violist Karen Olson)

Saturday, March 17th, 7-10pm

                   Cherry_blossoms

Come celebrate the holiday of joyous rebirth when green shoots rise out of the earth and Spring fever begins to arise in our bodies and souls. This is the moment on Earth when there is a perfect pause in the eternal rhythms of ceaseless change. As light and dark and all opposites are brought into a dynamic dance of equal relationship, a magical portal opens, inviting us into creative partnership with the Mysteries of life, death, and rebirth. We will sing, dance, meditate, write and create a dream of our own rebirth. We will then empower each other’s visions in a sacred circle, as we each light a candle to align our choices with the expansive energy gifted to us by the return of spring. Guest musician, NY Pops violist Karen Olson, lends her music and magic to this special evening. (RobinRoseBennett.com & KarenOlson.com)

Note: Please bring a candle (with holder) and an object resonant with the theme of the evening to place on the altar. Colorful, festive attire encouraged, as are handheld instruments to play. Robin will share a magical springtime herbal infusion and you are welcome to bring food to share.
