Reflections and Ritual Suggestions
for Halloween/Samhain 2005

We gather when the veils are thin...when the separation between the worlds of form and formlessness is almost nonexistent. This is the magical time of Death/Rebirth,of Ending/Beginning, of Transformation/Renewal.

We gather to honor our physical Ancestors, including those we may not even know of, some of whom may be most kindred to us. We gather to honor our spiritual Ancestors.

We gather especially to remember those who have passed into the world of Spirit in the last year.

We gather to honor the generations as yet unborn. We gather to create sacred, magical space for those yet-to-come as we help, by our intentions and actions in ritual, and even more in the day-to-day world, to create a world in which we honor and delight in Life, and in which we do what we can to protect the Sacred Web of Life.

We gather for our personal transformation/renewal. Each of us will symbolically release to the Fire that which we are ready to let go for transformation. This may be an old habit of thought or action, an approach to relationships, a fear, or a judgment that is limiting. Write what you are releasing for transformation on a piece of paper or on a piece of white birch bark, and burn it. Know that you have initiated your powerful potential for change with Spirit (and perhaps your chosen circle) as Witness.

Opportunities will arise to act in accordance with this shift you’ve chosen to initiate. Take them seriously and do the work of change, step by step. What you begin in ritual can powerfully impact your day-to-day life.

Light a Candle to honor your ancestors and the generations as yet unborn anytime during the week before, after, or on the night of Halloween.

I wish you Green Blessings and the Magic of all the Autumn Colors in this Sacred Season.
